Amazon Kindle DX Reviews: What Actual Kindle Buyers Are Saying
Monday, August 31st, 2009If you check out the vast number of Amazon Kindle DX reviews available on the internet, you will find a mixed bag. While the DX has received mostly positive reviews, it is impossible to please everyone and many people have some complaints. Many problems people have with the DX are personal issues such as the 12 hour battery not being enough to keep up with their travel-intensive job. But for the vast majority of people, 12 hours is ample time to read for one day. In order to decide if the Kindle DX is right for you, you have to break down the pros and cons.
The pro list is a big one. The DX boasts so many features, it’s impossible to list them all in a short article. One thing the Kindle does very well is live up to what it claims. The screen is huge and perfect for easy-on-the-eyes reading anywhere. It can hold more books that most people can even think of and other documents as well. Offering you a rotating screen, the Kindle DX is perfect for reading newspapers or kid’s books with plenty of pictures. The DX also boasts an improved design over the Kindle 2, making it easier to hold without accidentally hitting buttons.
But there are still issues, many of which aren’t exactly the fault of the device. The biggest complaint that many users have is the DRM (digital rights management) that Amazon has chosen to use. DRM is widely considered an outdated practice of material protection and unfortunately limits the kinds of documents you can use on your Kindle DX. You are forced to buy from Amazon and you may find that many of your reader files will not work.
And if you have a lot of reading material, you will struggle to search through it as the organizational limits of the DX are imposing. If you do manage to fill up that 3,500 book capacity, you may spend most of you time filtering through it looking for the book you want to read. And it is impossible to discuss the DX without mentioning the price. At nearly $500, many people just cannot afford to buy one.
That price does buy you quite a bit with the DX. It buys enough to keep most readers happy for a long time. Of course, the Kindle DX isn’t perfect. It does have some issues that may put some people off. But if you are not concerned with the file limitations or the organization options, you may find plenty to love about the new DX. For most people the DX offers everything they want from an ebook reader. And while it may not replace the paper book entirely, there certainly is something to all the hype about the new Kindle DX.
